Naloxone (Narcan)

Narcan (brand name) or naloxone (name of medication) is a drug used to reverse an opioid overdose, including overdoses due to fentanyl. It is available without a prescription and is legal to carry. We encourage everyone to have naloxone as a tool in their first aid kit – carrying naloxone and knowing how to use it can save a life!

Nevada County has other naloxone distributors throughout the community. Each distributor has their own guidelines for how to get naloxone and may or may not carry fentanyl test strips. Some only distribute to clients or customers while others make it available to the public.

You can find a list of some distributors here. For information about how your organization, business or agency can become a distributor, visit our Become a Narcan Distributor page.
